Yuli

Over the last decade, Margaux Alexis Roselena Whitney, professionally known as Yuli, has solidified herself as a premier multi-instrumentalist, artist and producer in the contemporary music landscape. Through her eclectic style and exemplary skill, she has garnered a vast range of collaborators from Doja Cat, Sza, J Cole, and many others. Utilizing the medium of stringed instruments, Yuli has been able to add an unmistakable flair to any record she creates and the music industry has taken serious notice.

Yuli was born and raised on the Westside of Detroit, Michigan where her first musical experiences were singing in her church choir and playing violin in her elementary school orchestra. Later, she attended Boston College to continue her classical music education. After graduating with a dual degree in music and English, Yuli formed a band with another classical violinist, and began covering contemporary music and performing live. The pair caught the attention of Kendrick Lamar’s team, ultimately leading to her co-writing the strings for the 2012 good kid, m.A.A.d. city classic Don’t Kill My Vibe. The success of BDKMV led to several collaborations with J. Cole, the most notable of which was her first major label production credit for her work on 4 Your Eyez Only. After touring the album with Cole, Yuli decided to pivot and focus on the development of her solo career.

As a solo artist Yuli’s working tenure continued to expand, with her collaborating with burgeoning musicians such as J.I.D, Ari Lennox, Sabrina Claudio, and Kid Cudi, amongst others. Yuli contributed to Doja Cat’s record “Been Like This,” earning her an Album of the Year Grammy nomination as a writer for Planet Her. The following year she won her first Grammy for her contributions to Steve Lacy’s critically acclaimed Gemini Rights. This past year she co produced the lead track from Sza’s SOS, “Blind” and co produced two records for Dreamville’s Creed III Soundtrack.

Credits and reputation combined led to famed producer Noah Goldstein taking note and signing her to his publishing imprint Ark with Concord Music Publishing. In 2023, Yuli continues to garner credits through collaborations with artists, and looks forward to exploring film and television.
